Whether it’s your 1st or 21st tattoo — we realise that you might have questions. We answered the most frequently asked on this page, however if you have something which is not covered please use the form on this page to get in touch!
HOW LONG DOES A TATTOO TAKE TO HEAL AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THAT TIME?
A brand new tattoo will feel like a sunburn during the first day or two. The tattoo may form a layer of dry skin or lightly scab within a few days — this is normal. Do not try to remove any scabs or dry skin by picking at it or scrubbing in the shower — let your tattoo heal by itself and use only our aftercare instructions! You should be fully healed within 4 days up to 3 weeks.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AFTER I GET A TATTOO?
The tattoo artist will advise you on specifically what you will need to do after the tattoo. In general, until the tattoo is healed, you will need to protect the tattoo from direct sunlight, avoid prolonged wetness (swimming, bath tubs/hot tubs, etc) and no petroleum jelly as the initial healing agent. We do sell professional tattoo aftercare products in our studio. These will help to heal the fresh ink without complications.
DOES IT REALLY HURT TO GET A TATTOO AND WHY?
The short answer is yes. The process of tattoo application is not painless.
When you are getting the tattoo, a specially designed tattoo needle pierces through your skin at approximately 10-15 needle drops per second, fast enough to avoid puncturing the skin and cause bleeding and slow enough to avoid tearing the skin.
Your skin has three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the hypodermis. Because the epidermis is constantly replenishing itself, the needle needs to penetrate through the dermis layer to make the tattoo permanent. For this to occur, the tip of the needle attached to the machine is entering your skin layers approximately 1/16″ of an inch.
IS IT SAFE TO GET A TATTOO?
Yes, it is safe to get a tattoo. Every tool and piece of equipment is sterilized immediately after each tattoo is completed or is disposable and safe to use. All tattoo needles/cartridges are 1-time use only. They arrive to us from the manufacturer in individual pre-sealed pouches and are opened up right in front of you.
WHAT KIND OF TATTOO DESIGNS I CAN CHOOSE FROM?
All artists in our team have pre-made designs that they would like to tattoo, offering these at a special price. These are available to view and book through Instagram — www.instagram.com/tattooinlondon.
If you are looking for a custom-designed project based on your idea, fill the contact form on our website to discuss your ideas further. We offer online and in-person consultations too!
Please do not ask us to copy other artists art — we won’t do it. We strongly believe that tattoos must be individual!
HOW MUCH DOES A TATTOO COST?
Small tattoos at our studio start from £60, large scale projects are charged either by hour or session price. The final price depends on the final design, size of the project and on the part of the body to be tattooed. The pricing of a tattoo is individual, use our contact form to send an enquiry and we will happily provide you with a quote.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?
Proof of age ID cards are also required if you’re thinking about having a tattoo or simply because you look young for your age and need to prove you’re over 18. Always bring in valid photo ID with you in the form of a Passport or Driving License just in case you are asked. (If you fail to show ID when asked you may risk losing your deposit and appointment time).
CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME FOR SUPPORT?
Friends and family are more than welcome to wait out the front of the studio in the reception area whilst you are being tattooed (limit to one person). However, we will not allow any extra visitors within treatment areas for health and safety reasons.
